Direct booking readiness checklist
Find the operational blockers before a real guest discovers them.
Short answer
A direct booking channel is ready only when availability, total price, payment, written terms, confirmation and support work as one journey. Mark each item honestly, then copy the prioritized action plan.

Treat readiness as a connected system
A calendar can be correct while a quote is incomplete. A payment can succeed while the guest receives no useful confirmation. A clear agreement can still conflict with the cancellation text on the website.
Test the journey with one property and realistic dates. Record the total the guest sees, the availability change, the processor response, the agreement version, every confirmation and the support route.
Run a controlled test reservation
- 1Open the live site as a guest and choose realistic dates.
- 2Confirm availability, occupancy, mandatory fees, taxes and cancellation terms.
- 3Use processor test mode or a controlled low-value transaction where appropriate.
- 4Check the host notification, guest confirmation and calendar change.
- 5Follow every link on mobile and verify the guest knows what happens next.
- 6Cancel or reverse the test using the documented operational process.

Where Host Pilot fits, and where it does not
A connected guest-facing starting point
Host Pilot can import a listing into a reviewed property source, generate a direct-booking website and digital guest guide, connect guest communication, and support Stripe Checkout or a host-configured cash option.
Responsibilities that stay with the host
Host Pilot does not replace legal review, tax decisions, insurance, identity verification, chargeback handling, or the channel and owner-accounting depth of a comprehensive PMS.
Questions hosts ask before acting
What do I need before accepting direct bookings?
At minimum, verify the property, availability, complete price, payment process, cancellation terms, agreement acceptance, confirmation, support and local compliance. Test the full reservation path before promoting it.
Can I start direct bookings without leaving Airbnb or Booking.com?
Yes. Many hosts operate an owned booking channel alongside marketplaces. Keep calendars synchronized and respect each platform's rules for reservations that originate there.
Why is fee transparency a blocker?
A guest should understand mandatory charges before committing. Laws differ by market, and US rules now require mandatory short-term-lodging charges to be included in the displayed total price.
Does Host Pilot replace a PMS or channel manager?
No. Host Pilot can generate a direct-booking website, guest guide and communication starting point from a listing, but a complex portfolio may still need dedicated channel, revenue, accounting or operations systems.
Does Host Pilot handle legal review, taxes or insurance?
No. Hosts remain responsible for legal terms, tax decisions, insurance, identity checks, chargebacks and local compliance.
Is my checklist information stored?
No. The checklist runs in your browser memory. Copy or print the action plan before leaving if you want to retain it.
